Thoughts on upgrading from LX5 to GX1

I am currently using the LX5 as my lightweight travel camera for situations when I don't bring my nikon d200. (ie, head to a restaurant with the family or go for an afternoon walk to the park where I might want to take some photos of them playing).

I did find over the holiday weekend that many of the photos indoors were grainy and lowering the ISO wasn't an option as the photos were coming out blurry. (I did do some photos with the on camera flash but didn't like the some of the photos.)

Would upgrading the the GX1 improve some of the quality while maintaining the portability of the LX5? I see that a 14-42 lens is available but is that the most compact?
