Re: Titling Of Pictures

Since I'm also a writer, and my photography tends to be both narrative and personal in nature, I almost always choose a title which, hopefully, adds to the impact of the photo. Doing so does, in fact, help reveal my intention behind the photograph.

I recently produced an image of a derelict rocking chair overgrown by weeds and vines. I titled it "Social Security". A lot of people have shrugged at the title. But a lot of people understand the editorial view the title adds to what would otherwise be just a photo of an old chair. The title creates an different feel.

Some people operate cameras. Others use them to create images. There is a difference.
