Restaurant examples

Since you specifically asked about shooting in restaurants, I've dug out some restaurant shots. First, here's a very dark restaurant. The S100 selected ISO 640 for this, but I should probably have manually selected 1600. 1/60 F2 ISO 640, 24mm (equivalent):

Next, here's a well-lit restaurant at lunch. The camera selected ISO 250 for this. I thought it always selected 640 for flash in auto ISO, but apparently not when there's plenty of light anyway. I should probably have turned off the flash for this, but I gave the camera to someone else to take the shot. 1/60 F2 ISO 250 24mm (equivalent):

And finally, a fairly well-lit restaurant where I didn't use flash. At 24mm equivalent you can use F2, which was plenty here at ISO 800 to give 1/30, which is also fast enough, so long as your subjects aren't moving a lot:

The next time I go to a dark restaurant (possibly tonight), I'll experiment with using flash at higher ISO. At 1600, the S100 gives great results, especially shot RAW and processed with Lightroom.
