Any comment on the AF precision of EOS 1100D/Rebel T3?

Just to confirm the above:

The 50mm f/1.8 has an autofocus precision issue of its own that seems to be due to its relatively substantial spherical aberration that this lens has wide open. These cause the AF sensor to think it has a lock short of when it does when focusing down from infinity instead of starting from the minimum focus distance. The aberrations are less pronounced away from center, so it actually helps to use the outer focus points. By f2.8 its all good, though.

The 35mm f/2 utterly lacks this issue ... as does the 50mm f/1.4.

However, the 50mm f/1.4 (and the 50mm f/1.8 actually) is very calibration-sensitive. If the camera is on one end of the acceptable range and the lens on the other, it won't focus accurately. The more expensive Canon cameras have something called "micro focus adjust" to compensate for this. The rest of us kind of have to live with what we get or send the lens and body in to Canon for service.
