I was looking at:

Canon 28mm f/2.8 (possibly the f/1.8, but looks to be too much $)

I like the ability to get close which is why I was looking at the 35 and 28. I'm shooting indoors and can't always control lighting (or change it in time before the kids to cooperate) so low light photo quality is essential.

Thanks for input.

rolandct,

If you are shooting FF and indoors and want to get close I would suggest 35mm.

If you are shooting crop it would then be 28mm or shorter even if you can.

Easiest way to contol lighting (my preference) is to sit with your back to an open window and get them to face you. If they aren't playing that one then point your speedlite over your shoulder towards a (perferrably white) wall and you should be fine.

Kids are not always easy to photo at close to wide open, but practice makes perfect and the results are always worth it.

the two most recent sets at the link in my sig were shot with 35mm on FF and natural light only if you're interested.

Enjoy, forbaz.
