Rethinking my "RAW only" stance...

I have noticed that since I have started using the A77 regularly I am drawn more and more to using jpg files.

The reasoning is as follows:

  • Many of the options, like picture effect will not work in RAW

  • The size of the files is about half the RAW file, or less (naturally)

  • PP time is much less

Ok, I am still a firm believer that RAW is the best option for shooting and that my PP will look better than whatever the jpeg engines renders. I know that to be a fact via experience. But I must say that when I look at the finished product of the stuff I am getting straight 'OOTC' it's really good! (despite what some here have suggested) The engine looks to be fine for most applications.

I am thinking that I will shoot mainly in extra fine jpg from now on and then RAW + jpg when I really want some backup for important shots like weddings, etc.

Make sense?
