I will disagree with the raw file school of thought - you will have a difficult time beating a JPEG from this camera. Lightroom will allow major editing of the JPEG's and I have found the skin tones are difficult to match from raws vs JPEGS. I add a small amount of sharpening and fill. The flash sucks except for fill in bright light. You can hand hold at typical room lighting at ISO 80 and get great quality pics of static objects and people. Yes it has its limits and tracking moving subjects is not at the top of its can do list. The color balance, skin tones and auto exposure of this camera are very impressive as is the viewing screen. I have owned many cameras including the Nikon D7000 and find for the "pony" pictures that most of us take, this camera is more than capable of delivering high quality monitor images at 5 X 7 and 8 X 10. When I want to print an image, I print at 4 X 6 on a Sony dye transfer type of printer and the images pop of the page. The lens is very sharp and has high contrast - I am sure that is why the camera cost so much. I wish it took HD quality movies, but I bought it for the high quality stills primarily. I waited until the camera dropped to $299.00 on Amazon and purchased recently. You may want to look for a used TL500 on EBay if this is too much for your budget.
PS: I will be adding images shortly
