Lumix GF1: Cheap and expensive and making a great pics with 20mm

So I got a great deal on a great camera. The GF1 came out in 2009 and was kitted with G 20mm pancake lens. It is discontinued now. On Amazon today this combo is offered for $1,700 American. Strangely, I picked up the kit here in Prague for the price of the lens alone. Good luck, perhaps. Bad economy, more likely.

I am sharing one of the first pictures from the GF1. The former president of the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel has died and there are many remembrances going on around town. The pic is from a square very dear to the Czechs. I named the file 'In memory of V. Havel' for he preferred to be 'Citizen Havel' throughout his life. He would have made the martyr grade, had it not been for Pres. Reagan and his tearing down of The Wall.

I have a question. On the power-up the barrel of the lens moves about a bit. With the lens cover on there is some friction going on. The Instructions do not say to remove the cover before turning the power on and I am wondering if it is safe to turn power on and off with the lens cover on.

Cheers,

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1
