Curious about D7000 'sophisticated' AF

Several threads contain posts suggesting apparant D7000 mis-focusing is due to its sophisticated and complex AF system; this (I read) can either be so complex it doesn't work or more likely is too complex for some photographers to use properly.

Can someone explain to me what this complexity actually does? And how it varies from the AF of my D700 and D5100?

Incidentally, I use single point focus on both and have found no problems with either camera.
