The S90? No. Control wheel and newbie, bad combo.

Yeah, I totally agree...

S95 or 100? Sure, they work fine on auto. Not great, but then I don't know any camera that's all that great on full auto.

lol, yeah, that's my thing to. I used to say the s90/s95/s100's auto mode was mediocre, but then I tried other cameras, and I started calling it "good but not great". I mean let's look at the alternatives -

Nikon p300 - I find it's auto mode really bad. I tried it in person twice in the store, it kept choosing 1/15, iso400, f2.8. Note - the lens does f1.8. 1/15 is just - terrible.

Nikon Superzoom - my friend had one, no manual controls, he was always screwing around with the iso to try to get the shutter speed high enough because it also chose 1/15 all the time.

Nikon v1/p1 - read it's the same thing, 1/15.

sx230 - yeah, it's cheaper, but it's lens isn't f2.0.

500hs - f2.0 lens, but did you see the recent thread from someone where they get noticeably (even at screen size) mushier and less detailed pics in auto vs what they get in P mode?

Point being, nothing seems to be perfect...
