Re: Upgrading from A630 to Canon SX230

I just recently bought an SX230HS. Coming from the A630, you will find pros and cons in comparing the two.

In favor of the SX230HS you'll find better video, a much longer and somewhat wider lens, you get Image Stabilization, you get a larger, higher resolution LCD, the camera goes to much higher ISO, and is much better for noise control at higher ISO, and you get a much lighter and smaller camera.

In the negative column, you lose the optical finder, you lose a finger grip on the front, battery life is not as good, and you lose the flip out LCD.

I fixed the lack of a finger grip by adding a strip of heavy duty Velcro pile on the front of the camera. It gives the needed grip, adds next to no weight, and doesn't get slippery when wet. The piece I used was black, about 1" x 2" and attached vertically near the right edge of the camera. Regular Velcro isn't thick enough and doesn't have the same adhesive as the heavy duty version. Check you local fabric shop - it comes in 2" wide rolls. Pile is the furry half - the "hooks" side is rough and not suitable.
