If money's no object, why not? If they have no interest in settings or pp they'll still take as good or better pix as they would with a different camera on automatic settings and have 1080p video, too.

Plus, there's always the chance that a good camera might spark a "teachable moment" and lead to a greater interest in photography

Of course, if money IS an object, I'd get them something $200 cheaper (there are so many good choices there) and wait to upgrade when a learning curve actually kicked in (if ever).
