Good advice there, after all my experimenting with metering modes and mucking around with contrast, I have come full circle back to multi metering and a default of EV=-.3, which allows me to further trim some scenes down to -.7 or -1 and the occasionally up to 0EV.
Sometimes I wish cameras had a global EV compensation deep in the settings, so you could trim it to your liking with the normal EV set to 0. I am just fussy that way that I would like to see my camera expose just right when EV=0 instead of -.3.
