My standard is .02 mm. While I shy away from hyperfocal distances, I did find that with my copy of the Nikkor 14-24/2.8 (now sold) that it did slightly better from edge to edge on my D300 focused at hyperfocal whereas my Nikkor17-35/2.8 needs to be focused at infinity to get good edge to edge sharpness on my D300. Indeed, I often find myself struggling more with focus distances and apertures as it relates to the overall performance of the lens than to critical DOF; specifically the aforementioned edge to edge performance, and bokeh.
