300D repair help

Hello, a friend of mine has an original 300D that she loves that apparently has a broken sub mirror pin problem. To those not familiar with this it causes the AF mirror to stay down and block 3/4 of the sensor, giving you only a strip of image at the top. Has anyone here had this repair done and if so, what does it cost? I have found a couple of do it yourself repair tutorials that look to be within my skill set but I don't have a good selection of little tools for this kind of job right now. The camera is in great shape otherwise and can actually be used for manual focus if you flip the sub mirror up. Thanks for any info you can share.
