Cropping to avoid corner softness can actually be counter-productive. Sharpness is not an absolute quality; it is a quality of scale. Unless the corners of APS-C have at least 1.6x the frequency at the same contrast as the corners of the FF, the crop will be softer in the corners at the same image size.

The corners have to be really and abruptly bad for a crop to have superior corners.
