Just gave my personal two stories among several more.

1) On Dec 10th, 2010 which was Friday evening, I ordered 60D together with 100-400L to take advantage of "double lens" instant rebate, that is the price I got then.

Print order summary

Item(s) Subtotal: $2,499.00
Shipping & Handling: $10.30
Super Saver Discount: -$10.30
Promotion Applied: -$110.00
Promotion Applied: -$100.00

Total Before Tax: $2,289.00
Estimated Tax To Be Collected: $0.00

Grand Total: $2,289.00

But next day about 24 hrs later, I found they further slashed prices on both 100-400L and 60D body with the total amount of $59.03, I called (important, you call!) and they gave me the different as shown below (just copy and paste from my online invoke)

  • Refund date: December 10, 2010

Refund Amount: $59.03

What I can say more?

2) Back in early 2008 I ordered triple combo deal of 50D+24-105L+Pixma Pro 9000 from Amazon. The first two were instant rebate while printer was $100 mail-in rebate that you need to cut barcode from inside of the PixmaPro 9000 box + barcode from 5D box (together with 24-105L) and mailed to Canon rebate center. I did but then I got an email from Canon said the form I downloaded from Amazon site was invalid (no idea why) therefore no entitle to the $100 mail-in rebate. I called Amazon to complain about. Their manager immediately gave me $100 its own "rebate" actually refund. Then two days later, I found Amazon updated the rebate form, so I downloaded and refilled and sent to Canon rebate center another time (and I also called), I got the original supposed $100 rebate. So I actually ended to only pay on that printer $23! Again what I can say?
