The new noise reduction is the most significant advancement for m4/3s ever!

Quite simply the new noise reduction is VERY impressive for in-camera noise reduction. Of course post processing can do better. However, the new in camera noise reduction for both RAW and JPG images is significantly superior to the V1.0 firmware noise reduction.

Here are sample cropped images for both in camera JPGs and RAW files with zero processing. The noise reduction affects RAW images only if it is set to +2. It does not affect the RAW images for any NR value other than +2 even for the older firmware.

In addition the noise reduction has no affect on the ISO 160 images even if it is set to +2.

As you can see by the images below the noise reduction with the new firmware produces a significantly better image in every aspect. This is what they meant by improved noise reduction.

I hope dpreview will re-review the GH2 with the new firmware and the new noise reduction settings. They have updated reviews for cameras from Sony. Hopefully they will do the same for the GH2.
