Re: What a huge task...

Thanks you for your wonderful endorsement. I just showed Amy this thread (I forgot when I started it) and she is very pleased with your feedback, as I am too.

Most of the shots above date back to 1972, but she is yet to get into the boxes dating back further and mostly stored well in supposedly in good condition.

The website is a great Idea, we both will look into setting something up once she gets around the file naming for the slides, so each slide has a story. Luckily the Aunts managed to keep photo diaries wherever they went and she now has those, so all is looking good for a wonderful snapshot of far flung places over 50 years.

Once digitised, these slides would make an amazing website. I for one would spend many hours there. If you ever publish the best into a book that would also be worth buying. You can tell even just from the ones above that she/they were a cut above the average photographer.

In between the Hour Glass
and the lens of a secondhand camera
a dog barks orders to troops
lining a battlefield
of posies and poppy,

the diecast setting of a model
standing aloft, aloof
the rain pelting an icy tin roof
suggests the shutterspeed needs to be fast
to capture the enemy.
