My advice

The nifty fifty is a great bargain, and my only issue is build quality and poor af. But AF can probably be solved with micro adjust.

The problem with moving up one notch is that you may not be satisfied and will need to move up another notch. The incremental moves at substantial prices can kill your wallet.

I did this myself. Staring with mid range lenses, selling them and moving to best of class lenses.

Sure, its not hard to sell a lens, but when you pay $600 and sell for $400, or in some cases $1200 and sell for $1000, and do this with several lenses, it adds up.

I suggest starting simple and spend a year or more to decide what focal length and style you really need and then go for the best lens you can afford that meets your needs.

When you can't focus, nothing else matters
Once you can, everything else does.
