Which 70-200 2,8?

I have decided to upgrade from my 200mm f/2,8L,which i plan to sell,to a more flexible 70-200 telezoom for my 5DII.

I really don't want to loose the wide aperture, and the ability to use with AF my 2X converter, and i have set my budget at a €1500 cap.I would like the 70-200f/4L IS but this would nullify my 2X converter, which i find useful on some occasions,so the way i see it,my choices are:

a)A new Canon 70-200f/2,8
b)A used Canon 70-200f/2,8 IS gen1
c)Sigma's 70-200f/2,8 OS

My questions are these.I have heard bad things about Canon's 70-200 IS (1st gen) image quality when used wide open @ 200mm,are they any true?Is the Sigma compatible with Canon's 2X converter? And finally, how true are the horror stories about Sigma's quality variation from lens to lens, specifically the front/back focusing issues?

My other(a bit crazy) option,is selling both the prime and the converter and saving up for a really good lens is the Sigma 120-300f/2,8.Any one having experience with that lens?Is it worth the €2500?
The manual is there to be read, not for toilet paper.
