A77 + Minolta 200mm f2.8 G HS APO (25 year old lens)

I was fortunate enough to find a near mint example of this lens. It arrived this afternoon, and here is my first shot with it. The shot is nothing special, a squirrel in a shaded tree, but it does begin to show the sharpness of the lens.

I am just delighted to have such a diminutive f2.8 300mm prime lens! My Nikon 300mm f2.8 is a fantastic lens, but huge by comparison.

A77 + Minolta 200mm f2.8 @f5.6, ISO400, 1/160th sec, RAW, processed minimally in ACR

There was very little CA. It seems to perform pretty much as described in the excellent PhotoZone review:

Does anyone know what the shiny knob on the side of the lens is for?
