They don't fail at any precise time or number of shots. This makes it impossible to predict when single one will fail. But given the fact that some people had it 2 and some 3 times fail with replaced lens or even new camera, the probability that ALL X100 are failing is simply statistically "YES" with the number of cameras produced.

This is true until of course the problem is actually fixed, but it is my understanding it wasn't yet so.
