The weird and wacky world of NX100 firmware
Nov 9, 2011
Summary if you do not want to read all of this is:
1. It may sort out problems if you reinstall the lens software after a body firmware change.
2. If you get a low battery indicator preventing you from reinstalling lens firmware connecting the USB to a computer and disconnecting with the lens attached can clear the problem as long as the lens remains attached, enough to update or reinstall lens firmware.
3. Has lens firmware been changed but not posted as a new version?
3.Is having seperate lens and body firmware the potential Achilles heel of the NX system
4. If you are thinking of buying an NX100 buy an NX11 or NX200. It could be a lot less trouble in the long run unless you really really need the smaller size.
Joy of joys I might not have to send my NX100 back in the post for the fourth time. The work around may be of interest if other people have this problem though Maxwell's demon seems to have been stalking me personally with this camera. If it can go wrong it will go wrong.
When I received it back the second time they had replaced the PCB, Top Cover and Sensor.
Switched on without a lens all was fine. As soon as any of my lenses were attached the system hung and no buttons responded. I thought 'new pcb upgrade the camera firmware'. I upgraded from ver 1.0 to 1.12. The camera then worked OK but gave a low battery indicator, refused to upgrade the lens firmware and then closed down completely with fully charged batteries.
Packed it up and sent back to the repairers address shown on the repair docket. Rang A One Digital the repairers 2 days later and found I was talking to the original repairers Camtronics. They said A One had moved a month ago to them and had not changed the repair docket address I thought that was the last I would see the camera. Ten minutes after this conversation our happy smiling Post Lady appeared to my great joy with the camera in her hands. Had a very long conversation with a lady in Samsung, possibly not in her first language, trying to explain the camera and lens firmware being used. She said 4 hours ago they would ring back in an hour. Heard nothing since.
Thought I might have another play and plugged the camera with the lens attached into the computer forgetting I could not access menus whilst attached. However when I unplugged the USB cable and switched on the camera the battery indicator was full so something had reset. However when I removed the lens and reattached the indicator went to flat.
However I reconnected to the computer and next time this did not work but trying again I got full indicator and reinstalled all my lens firmware for ver 1.0 to ver 1.0 and ver 1.2 to ver 1.2 depending on the lens. Have detached and reattached all the lens with no problems. Touch wood it is all now working.
