What do you consider the effective ISO limit of your camera?

Agreed, shadow noise is problem with this sensor (also on GF-1/2, etc.). But if your exposure is good (and you shoot in Natural or Muted) it is OK. Under-expose at all and you will have shadow noise.

fortunately the Oly metering (and the avialalblity of all the different modes) is very good.
