Lens suggestions for new set-up with Nikon D90

Hi everyone,

I've finally decided going back to my oldest hobby after a very long time and am looking for the most effective set-up for my situation.

I own a very old Canon EOS 500 which served me very well for long years but it's time to let go of her

I'll be getting a Nikon D90 but I just can't make up my mind for the lenses. I'm definitely getting a Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF lens (sadly the 85mm version is way over my budget so have to stick with this one). I need a second lens and will not be getting another lens for at least a year so it must cover a wide range -as much as possible- while not compromising on image quality. I'm considering a few options;

  • Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR DI-II LD Aspherical (IF)

I've heard many good things about this lens and compared to the Nikon version which is more than double the price this lens looks like a win.

  • Any 18-105mm or 18-200mm ?

I need a very good balance between widest usage and image quality with a budget not exceeding 2000USD. The camera itself, 50mm lens and shipping already costs around 1450USD so it leaves me just around 550USD for the second lens..

All feedback will be appreciated.. Thanks a lot in advance!
