EX-1 vs. Powershot G12, Nikon P7100 for travels...

Hi, as a compact camera for stressful hot country traveling, i currently ponder

  • Samsung EX-1

  • Canon Powershot G12

  • Nikon P7100

  • Olympus E-PL3 + 14-42

My essentials:

  • articulating screen (side-hinging preferred)

  • good low-ISO performance

  • good dynamic range (i shoot mostly on sunny days)

  • very easy to dial exposure compensation and/or AE lock

  • can be used inobtrusively, casually (def. with good AF)

  • some robustness

I like:

  • focus by tapping touch-screen

  • moves easily into and out of tiny shoulder bag or baggy pocket

  • accepts polarizer

  • good macro specs (or accepts a good close-up lens)

  • electronic horizon

  • some zoom range (incl. zooming by taking a cropped image (not a blown-up image))

Not important:

  • video

  • good hi-ISO performance

What are your thoughts? Did you compare the G12 with the other candidates? I need it at the end of November.

Last year i had owned a Powershot G12. I quite liked all aspects overall, but as three Powershots before, it stopped working out of the blue. Does the competition anything better?

Now i have an m43 mirrorless Panasonic G2 + 14-45 lens – with some nice aspects including focus-by-touchscreen, but this combo is too large for my travel plans. A black m43 Oly E-PL3 + 14-42 looks much smaller, but maybe not small enough.

Thanks for all your thoughts!
