Li-Ion batteries, as mentioned elsewhere on dpreview, only last 3-4 years at best. Most are proprietory designs and many are chipped, so once the camera's manufacturer has lost interest in the product and ceases to produce the specific battery required, the camera is well on its way to becoming useless junk, no matter how well designed or built it otherwise is.

This type of built-in obsolescece does not affect AA-powered products.
