Best way to use AF-ON "Back Button" Focusing Method

Jason P. Odell on http://www.luminescentphoto.com has a great explanation and video of how to setup a Nikon DSLR to use AF-ON and why you might want to do so.

As he says "The idea behind setting the AF-On button to be the only way to activate your Nikon’s autofocus system is simple. Doing so allows you to set the camera to continuous-servo AF (AF-C) mode permanently, while still being able to get the benefit of focus-lock like you do in single-servo (AF-S) mode."

I really like his method. Then again, you may not. Take a look, what do you think?

Regards,
Howard

Here is the link to his blog post: http://www.luminescentphoto.com/blog/2010/11/05/nikon-af-on-technique/

I have the D7000 and the AF/AE lock button is a little further left than the AF-ON dedicated button on the D3s. Unless your hand is really small the reach is not uncomfortable...
