You might be able to shoot a 28mm lens like this if careful:
28mm focused at 10 feet at F11
Near DOF limit 6.05 feet - Far limit 28.9 feet.
according to DOF master

You'd probably get somewhat of a blurred background ( past 28.9 feet) with this..and depending what you like, may or may not want that in relating/isolating subject to background.

This seems usable though and some good 28mm lenses are very reasonably priced.
My Minolta MD W. Rokkor-X 28 F2.8 is pretty sharp.
