USA Sony Store A77s SHIPPING!

After reading the depressing news about Thailand and seeing that chart with its prospectus over re-openings of plants or plans I told myself I would not post anything further about this camera out of courtesy for those who are still waiting.

I went to shoot some bird in flight stuff yesterday and as luck would have it it wasn't a very good Eagle day for numbers or their average distance from the area we can photograph them from. I did get some but are heavily cropped as we only had one close fly by all day. I am making an exception this one time on this thread as I expect most reading this have either gotten theirs or will sometime next week in the USA. Hope this gives you some idea of what to expect from this camera shooting JPEG aperture preferred mode on BIF shots.

I hope it will be understood why I will restrain from posting anymore examples until the supply of camera's increases. Remember this was the first day out with it and there are some things I learned through my failures that I will build upon next time out. There is a learning curve but I am very pleased with my results overall so far and I really am not a BIF photographer by any stretch of the word but wanted to see what it could do.

Those are awesome pictures Jim!!

yes the situation in Thailand is sad. Hope the people there and their country can recover soon. (It has affected our component supplier but this supply is not important.) The people in the Thai kingdom, their lives and livelihood is more important at this time and my thoughts are with them.

bye.

Oh, please tell me that is wrong! I was ASSURED by people who presumably had an A77 that the ISO is displayed in auto iso mode in a way you can see before pressing the shutter. This is one of the biggest complaints of the A55. It should display along with f stop and shutter speed when you half press the shutter button. Please tell me that it does!?
I didnt care for the "auto iso" so I switched it to manual. I didnt like that the ISO used was not visible to me on auto in the viewfinder. Maybe I need to revisit that. I did like however that you can set the min (who cares) and max ISO though. Like I said, still so much to learn. (Now I gotta go play with the ISO now that you made me think about it again.) :)

On mine, when in Auto ISO, in the bottom right of the viewfinder, it says Auto ISO, and when you half press the shutter, it tells you the ISO chosen. Also, in my viewfinder, i have the Steady Shot hand in the upper right part of the finder as well.

Iso is displayed when you depress the shutter 1/2 way... don't know if it shows in all display modes but do know it shows in the full info display mode.

Judy that was the 70-400G lens..... it will most likely live on that camera. I might need to play a bit with micro adjust for this lens/camera set up..... I am getting some iffy focused shots and most seem slightly back focused but that could be my setup or technique too... It's early yet... too early to make any definitive changes till I see a greater trend to a focus issue.

Judy I think that shot was shot JPEG with the 2x digital tele converter on

nice shot Jim, So using the 2x tc makes it a 6mp file, thats the same size as my KM7D! lol i cant wait to get a hold of one of these babies!

SONY!!!!!!

2x makes it a 12mp the an additional 1/2 crop would take it to a 2400 effective view and 6mp image size. Then it would be a 7D km shot ;)

Bobby, I can't think of a cheaper way to get effective focal length gains while still having good IQ than a 24mp crop sensor camera for under $1400 usd.

When you're playing with a new camera and checking everything out, I didnt even think to see if it changes by depressing the shuter halfway. I'll pay attention to that today for sure. As for the "steady shot hand" that just tells you that it is turned on, correct? It's not a meter of any kind is it? Anyway, I set my auto ISO to max out at 800. I'm going to see if I can force myself to live within that constraint. (In the film days I could!)

Fantastic shot! And your thought (below) is EXACTLY what initially drew my attention to this camera as I was contemplating dropping $6,000 on a 20-yr old Minolta 600mm lens for my a850. I think the 70-400G will be near permanently mounted on my a77 as well; mine arrived two days ago and I'm looking forward to getting out with it this weekend. Thanks again for posting those pics!
