Rationalizing Homophobia

The US population is a country made up of a wide variety of nationalities and personalities. By and large they appear to get on pretty well.

Americans are bound by a great Constitution and legal system. Americans I have met are welcoming and friendly people.

Am am interested in how rational American citizens, in general, view the diversity of human sexuality. Is heterosexuality viewed as the norm and homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality and asexuality as an aberration? What do you personally think?
