Yes early adopters pay more ...

... But a ground breaking 36 MP sensor in a pro-grade body like the D700 would be at a substantial premium compared to the D700 value proposition. I think I read $4,000 USD somewhere. Given the deeping world wide recession, perhaps depression, is this the time for that move?

I fullly expect Nikon to take the price back up ... to where the D700 started out at. But another $1,000 or more on top of that?

Plus the files from a 36 MP sensor would require for many an upgrade in computing power. And for many lenses become an issue. Then there's the editing and skill set requirements capturing and working with these images.
