G12 AC + Battery Backup

Does anybody know of a solution whereby I could power a Canon G12 from AC - for extended periods of time (doing time-lapse) - but also have battery backup if the power fails ?

Situation is doing timelapse on sites where AC may not be very dependable.

Issue is - if the power fails then since the AC adapter takes up the battery bay - the camera resets/switches off - so will not continue even if power is only down for a second or two.

Quantum seemed to have a good option - Turbo AC - but after contacting them they've said that "We do not have any power supplies that are recommended for the Canon G12 camera" although not sure if this is just because they don't have an adapter or if voltages etc really aren't compatible.
(BTW - 3rd party AC adapter says it outputs 7.4V ,2A)

A UPS is an option, but most are a bit big, was hoping for something much smaller - like a quantum.

So thought I'd ask around......
