Dear Samsung: Wish List for NX200

No EVF/OVF, no tilt screen to partially make up for it=camera marketed for compact users, not for serious usage.

Not to mention zero technical support.
You're justified in thinking that with no EVF/OVF or tilt screen the NX200 isn't a camera that's going to provide serious usage, but that's for you , not for all photographers and not for most photographers. Many serious photographers will get along just fine with the NX200, and for those like you, that feel that it's too limited, there's always the NX20 or whatever NEX that satisfies. My preference would be for a tilt/swivel screen but unlike you, the lack of one is not a deal breaker, and I've had many cameras with either tilt/swivel or articulated screens. If I need that feature I still have a few that I can use that are fairly close in image quality to my NX100. But for a "pro" that's serious about his/her photography that really needs a tilt/swivel screen, they might share their opinion once or twice and then get whatever camera they need to get the job done, and if it's not an NX200, it's no big deal. They're married to their jobs and to their craft, not to a camera that will be replaced before too long anyway. And while a high resolution EVF would be nice (if priced reasonably), it's rarely necessary to get the job done. If I have to pay extra for one, I'd rather have it a permanent part of the camera, like in an NX10/11/20, so that I would lost that feature if I need to use a flash, or want to use Samsung's GPS device. Many serious photographers, BTW, have more than one camera, so a feature that one doesn't have is likely to be provided by one of their others. Are you putting all of your eggs in one basket?

You keep posting the same gripes over and over again and it's unlikely that you or those that disagree with you are going to change opinions since this back and forth has been going on for a long time now. How long is enough, days? Weeks? Until you have something more productive to write about? Or will these LCD/EVF/OVF gripes continue for months? Until next year? Until the NX200 is no longer in production? I get your point, got it a long time ago, and would be thrilled to see that you are able to discuss something else. Huh? Maybe? Please?

This is what I find important:

1: Available lenses

2: A body comfortable to hold + easy/quick access to ISO, aperture, shutter speed and manual focus.

3: Adequate focus speed, focus accuracy and good IQ up to ISO 800.

4: Possibility to shoot RAW.

5: Decent display

Features like: articulated display, EVF, motion picture, filters, scene modes....well, they are really not deal-breakers for me. At least not in a compact system camera.

Kind regards
.lars

My big wish is that Samsung work with a seriously good underwater housing manufacturer so I can take an NX camera to 100 metres. Oh, and an ultra wide angle prime - like 100 degree FOV - to shoot wrecks when I get down there

tl;dr

Skipped to the conclusion.

You're free to put me on your ignore list and/or not read my posts if they hurt you so.

This is a gear forum. This is a WISH LIST thread . Do you not see that? And you want to stop talking about the wishes? This is a place where people talk. Don't ask for the world to be tailored around you and your sensitivities. You tailor your free will around yourself and what you want, not what is available, so don't read my posts. It's incredibly simple, especially if you think I don't post about anything else but this topic.

Stop being a baby. This forum is looking like it's going to be the Olympus SLR forum soon.

I most wish that you'd grow up a bit. This is not the only thread that your replies have appeared in and they have one thing in common, your constant negativity. You always seem to have something to complain about.

This is a place where people talk. Don't ask for the world to be tailored around you and your sensitivities.
I didn't say that you shouldn't talk. I didn't say that you should tailor what you say to please anyone else. I even agree with some of your points. What you apparently won't or can't see is that you never stop whining, and eventually it gets to be a bit much. I highly doubt that there aren't many others that aren't also tired of your broken record.

Stop being a baby. This forum is looking like it's going to be the Olympus SLR forum soon.
Oh, you've had problems with people in the Olympus SLR forum too? I'm not at all surprised. I see that you started a thread in the Fujifilm Talk Forum just a few minutes ago, and lo and behold, you are complaining about Fuji too, titling your thread with this Subject: "Fuji Is Suspiciously Silent About X10 Demos".
. . .

Are they only betting on getting out of the gate with sight-unseen sales, like with the x100?

Maybe the hype machine is more important. Like those movie openings where reviews aren't allowed.

I thought that it might be interesting to see if your pattern persists so I looked at some of your earlier posts. The first one I looked at was a thread that you started a couple of months ago in the Pentax SLR Talk forum titled "Will Warranties Be Honored?" Here's how you dealt with one reply :
good gawds dude, you can't be serious with a question like that...I mean come-on man you have lived in the world for a while and bought things, watched companies sold and what not...right? Ever seen a company throw away all the customers over night?
Yeah.

The next post that I looked at was a real doozy. Enough so that I don't have to go any further. It confirmed the angry pattern that you show and a whole lot more. You started another thread, asking :
Let's say a user on this forum lost his cool, then decided to use info he likely scoured from who knows where on another user, which wasn't released themselves, nor authorized for disclosure.

Would you be ok with it? I am a victim of such an act, where another user started posting personal identification information in the course of losing his cool, then making accusations (false ones), to go along with it.

Some of the replies it generated :
Quit your whining.

1) Don't release personal information on the net. If a person can find it with a web search, or even a random surf, then one can hardly call it private information.
2) The definition of defamatory has to include that it isn't true.

3) If you don't want people to do this sort of stuff to you, don't be an ignorant troll.

  • #3) And here is where his problem lies.

But I can't say I'm surprised.

What personal info? I looked at the thread. She was a little offensive, but I don't see anything to make a big deal out of.

No, there is no situation where that would be acceptable behavior, and I hope DPR does something to remedy the situation.

That being said, if you weren't such an a$$ this probably wouldn't happen too often.

I'm afraid that from my point of view you are over-reacting & some of your comments hint at paranoia. If you choose , as you did, to harshly criticise others , in fact, a whole country then you shouldn't be too surprised when others disagree with you & respond in their own fashion.

The lack of response from DPR is also troubling. Needless to say, it's also troubling that this poster was able to come up with some information about me, though the rest of the stuff became defamatory due to being incorrect, as well as assumptions.
This is what I have said: "If you, as a 36-year old American-Asian temporarily living in Germany without really speaking the language or understanding the mentality over here,..."

Now guess where I´ve found that information: In your own posts! No big secret and no conspiracy, it´s just a few pieces of what you yourself have posted here before, so "authorized for disclosure".

on this forum is fair game to be repeated. Doesn't matter how long ago, or the context. The only thing that bothers me is those psycho's whop scour the net for personal information - Or the low life clown who posted a picture of the building I live in. (He could have asked)

Your innitial post talks about hunting the net, not about hunting this site. You posted it here? Live with it.

If so, it would seem to me you are getting worked up over nothing. If you are refering to a different thread, then please provide a link so we may judge for ourselves.
Yep, that was the thread. Another doozy. Maybe I should skip a lot of your posts.

I've been saying it for a while now and will continue to say it: give me a high quality evf and I will purchase an NX200. If I don't get one, I will wait for the NX20, and if that doesn't satisfy me, then I'm moving on to another system. I absolutely need some sort of a viewfinder, optical or evf, to enjoy shooting.

That would rock if you skipped my posts. However, you won't, because they are too interesting for you not to read and comment on, despite the fact you claim they aren't.

I fear that you may be correct, but that's also annoying. <g> In the meanwhile, or at least for the next couple of hours I'll be watching the Steuben Parade on public TV. Can't go downtown to see it live because I'm stuck waiting for Fedex to drop off a little box with something Samsung inside. Meine Deutsche drama starts in about 5 minutes.

Friedrich Wilhelm August Heinrich Ferdinand von Steuben (born Friedrich Wilhelm Ludolf Gerhard Augustin von Steuben ; September 17, 1730 – November 28, 1794), also referred to as the Baron von Steuben ,[1] was a Prussian-born military officer who served as inspector general and Major General of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He is credited with being one of the fathers of the Continental Army in teaching them the essentials of military drills, tactics, and disciplines.[2] He wrote the Revolutionary War Drill Manual , the book that served as the standard United States drill manual until the War of 1812. He served as General George Washington's chief of staff in the final years of the war.

Repairs are completely different from calling someone and getting anyone other than a simple multi-line product rep.

I even had a repair from Samsung, however, along the way, there was zero support, when I tried to call the US and DE offices. They were simple product reps.

I don't care about Nikon.
The point is, saying Samsung has 'no technical support' is exaggerating. A camera isn't a computer or OS, it shouldn't require some distant call center drone to walk you through a generic script. It either works or it doesn't, and when it doesn't, Samsung will fix it. What more do you want?

A significant part of why this forum is dead is the signal to noise ratio, and repetitive, redundant complaining doesn't help. If you don't like Samsung's lack of 'trained NX techs' or the lack of swivel screen/EVF option on the NX200, just bug out and go with another brand. Or stay and accept that they're still showing some inexperience at producing mirrorless cameras and move on like the rest of us.

So owning several Samsung cameras, but having a differing opinion from yours is not valid and calls for expulsion? If every single person had their way and blocked out opinions they didn't like, then there would be no interaction anywhere on the internet.

You deal with differing opinions, offer your counter, then done. You don't pi*s away valid comments and criticism as trolling or something uncomfortable that you can't handle, especially when it's pretty valid.

I salute you Mr B you have surely given us a master class in trolling. The key I think is bringing in the subtle personal insults which always raises the temperature and polarising arguments to the utmost degree. The way you have injected venom into this thread in so many places was most skilful. To imply I work for Samsung - really. In my current circumstances any job would be welcomed at the moment. though I am afraid I am too old, being over 60, to be considered useful.

I am curious what particular snake you model yourself on or is that your real name?

To think that 3 months ago I innocently would not have known what trolling was. An education indeed.

Since the NX200 doesn't even have an EVF port, you'll have to hope that Samsung impresses with the NX20 (or releases some 3rd option around the same time).

Saying 'quit complaining about the same thing over and over' isn't the same as 'you are expelled'.

I've already told you I agree with your assessment of the No-EVF/Fixed-Display being a bad move by Samsung.

I agree with you. This thread should be better called NX20 wishlist or NX300 wishlist.

What's the point of making NX200 wishlist when it's already made (only firmware changes).

Anyway, I wish NX200 be compatible with third party flashes. I like using off camera flash and I already have bunch of Nikon SB's with radio triggers and it would be sad if I can't use them.

Wait, they are still forcing people to use ONLY their flashes if they want exposure compensation during use?

Yes and no. Canon and Nikon owners can buy compatible Speelights from other manufacturers (such as Sigma, Metz, etc.) but they've been around for a long time, and Samsung is the new kid on the block. I'm sure that Samsung doesn't use any kind of "copy protection" that prevents the use of non-Samsung smart flashes, but these aren't yet available. Build it and they will come. If you want exposure compensation with 3rd party flashes using on the NX100/NX200, so far you're limited to using flashes that do their own exposure calculations. Known as AA (Auto Aperture mode), they're not as simple as using TTL flashes, but they can work better for some tricky flash situations. These "AA" flashes are generally very inexpensive, and one of the more reliable ones is the Vivitar 285HV. Its only real problem is that its two to three times the size of the NX100, so if you want to use a large flash with the NX cameras, you're probably better off putting the camera and the flash on a bracket, which makes the combo much easier to hold.

Thanks for the info. I think it was reported that radio and IF triggers can't fire from Samsung NX100 hot shoe, that you can use only Samsung flash to trigger off camera flashes. That's what I meant. I think people reported this problem after installing firmware.

A couple of questions. I went back a few replies and see that you were talking about Nikon's SB speedlights. Were these the newer CLS models (SB-600/700/800/900) or the older ones designed primarily for Nikon's film SLRs? Were the radio triggers specifically designed for operating in "smart" hot shoes or just with generic hot shoes? And last, it appears that you're saying that these radio triggers actually worked in the NX100's hot shoe until you upgraded the NX100's firmware. I wouldn't think that a "smart" radio trigger designed to be CLS compatible would have a chance of working with a Samsung (or Canon or Sony or Olympus or Panasonic) camera, so I assume that these are simple radio triggers that should work with any cameras. If so, it seems odd that a firmware change would prevent the trigger from working, so I must have missed something or don't understand something else. Do the triggers communicate directly with the SBs (which would probably prevent them from working with the NX100) or do the triggers communicate with their own brand's RF receivers that the SBs plug into?

I agree with you. This thread should be better called NX20 wishlist or NX300 wishlist.

What's the point of making NX200 wishlist when it's already made (only firmware changes).
I started this thread because I'm interested in the NX200 (don't know anything about the NX10, 11, 20, or sometime in the future 300) as a small carry around anywhere camera. I totally agree, now that I've become more educated about other Samsung models, that I should have left the model # off.

A "wish list" is just that. I know it's kind of like saying, "Gee, honey, I wish you'd drop a few pounds before bathing suit season." No good will come of it and it's not going to happen. Just wishin' (and as my wife is so fond of saying) "and wishin' ain't gettin'."

I do thank everyone (except snake_b) who has responded to the topic, though. I've learned a lot about Samsung and am getting a broader respect for their lenses.
