50-500 OS versus 70-200mm VRII w TC20EIII

Well a few fellow dpreview forum members asked me to do a comparison test between the sigma 50-500mm OS versus the ultra sharp 70-200mm VRII with the Nikkor TC20EIII teleconverter.

Both lenses are about the same size, the 70-200 plus converter is longer, but when you zoom out the sigma , this is much larger. Weight wise they feel about the same.

I thought that things would be close, but apparently with these little tests that I did , the sigma has the advantage over the nikkor and converter
full size

then crops:

Both lenses are handheld, both show at f/8. Not on tripod or monopod because I seldom shoot this way. I waited for stabilization to kick in before shooting.

Don't know why it reports another focal length, but this is as close a match I could do.

Interesting huh?
