Worth buying a Nikon Pre-AI Lens (50mm 1.8) adapter

This is an old lens. According to Ken Rockwell chart my old 50mm 1.8 was built during the period of 1959-1977 (image a lens having a run that long!) and is a "pre- AI".

Two questions:

1) Is it worth buying an adapter to use this on my G2? If the image quality on a digital cam will be only so-so, I won't bother

2) Is there a good but reasonably priced adapter for this? Since it is really an experiment, I don't want to pay too much. But also want an adapter that is good enough to show the Nikon lens at the best it can be when mounted on a digital camera.

Thanks for any help.
