While I agree it'd be nice if they kept on supporting thier bodies for many years, fact is the GH-1 was released over two years ago, and the G1 even longer. So you're wrong, as they're not expecting you to change bodies every year, but every couple.

Not only that though, but the lens' will function fine without firmware upgrade, you just won't get some extra fluff.

However, it seems that you should expect such things from Panasonic as they also didn't update the G1 or GH1 for 3D usage with thier 3D lens. Seems like a pattern.
