Sure someone remembers the beautiful song "Purple Heather" from Van Morrison?

If not, here's some other purple heather :-) Finally we had a nice Summer day in Holland so I cycled to see the heather, which is at it most beautiful right now.

Unfortunately my Lexar SD Card didn't function. First time such a thing happened ...
So I had to use the internal memory of the LX3 which worked fine.

Hope you like this little series.

Very good Luc - we were in Scotland last weekend but your Dutch heather is far better. Stuart

Sorry to hear about faulty memory card, Luc.. how many shots did you manage to store on build-in memory?.. I didn't know the heather is blooming already, will need to take a walk in to the woods - here at the sunny side of the Alps I have never seen it growing in open a on your shots.. I like the posted set as it is ;) .. but will wait for your new posting.. thanks for sharing :D ..

Best regards,

Thanks for the positive comments folks but ...

I'm not satisfied with the postprocessing (noise, sharpness, halo upper left on image 2), will re-post tomorrow or Sunday.

--
Update; I spent about 30 minutes trying to improve on the postprocessing while maintaning the original filmlike processing. In the end I decided to leave it as it is because improving on the technical imperfections would degrade the final look I tried to achieve.

Those are lovely! Both the composition and the processing. Would you mind sharing your technique?

Thanks Bryan.

I don't have a fixed technique, each image gets its individual treatment.

This image was processed with Lightroom. Here's a screen of the before/after image.

I started with a LR preset Color Creative Direct Positive. After the preset some 20 additional steps were applied. Things like exposure, black point, recovery, fill light, contrast, selective dodging/burning/saturation, sharpening.

So, no fixed technique. But often before or during shooting of an image I already have the final image in my mind. Then, if you know how to handle your software it's much easier to achieve your goals.

I hope this info was useful ;-)
