Alpha 9 FF camera

Please note that the following is not based on leaks, insider information or circulating rumors. It is pure speculation and would probably rate SAR7 at that well-known site. Do not let the style of writing mislead you.

In 2012 Sony will announce 3 new FF cameras. The first two are the widely expected A99 and A85, big siblings to the A77 and A65. The third is not, however the hoped-for OVF A920 (which was scrapped at an early prototype stage). It is the mirrorless Alpha 9. Sony does not refer to it as the A9 since it is essentially an E-mount camera, and does not refer to it as the NEX 9 as it has a large SLR-style body almost exectly the same as the A99 (slightly thinner). It comes with an integrally designed A-mount adaptor with screw drive and mechanical shutter actuator (in function a stripped down LA-EA2 without the SLT technology). All Sony and Minolta lenses will meter and focus accurately, but screw-drive lenses may be slow to focus. The Alpha 9 has the same sensor (perhaps slightly tweaked) as the A99, but has no low-pass filter (the A99 has a weak AA filter). The Alpha 9 has no micro lens adjustment. The A99 is considered the more general purpose professional camera, especially for those who need fast focus, while the Alpha 9 is aimed at those who want the best possible resolution and are willing to forego fast focus for legacy lenses. The Alpha 9 is also expected to attract those who want to use E-Mount lenses or non-A-Mount lenses via an adaptor.
