If they wanted to keep the optical viewfinder then they are quite limited to the range of focal lengths they could support with an interchangeable mount. Also the micro-lenses are optimised for the current lens, and any significant change would be problematic.

Having said that, I would be interested in an X-system with 4 small primes covering the equivalent of 28mm f2.8, 35mm f2, 50mm f2, 75mm f2.8.

Overall unit size for the 35mm equivalent and 28mm equivalent should be identical to the current X100. Clearly part of the lens assembly would need to extend behind the mount, much as the Mamiya 7 lenses do now!
