After much research, reading and angst, I finally gave up making a decision on my own and visited the local camera shop. The Nikon enthusiast behind the counter was quite pleased to sell me on the 9100. I brought it home and after a few absolutely horrible pictures, set the thing to auto and took a few more. I think I'll like it. As a pocket camera to carry when I don't want to take my trusty D40, it seems to be able to work quite well indoors and out, so it's good enough for me.
Keep in mind, I'm a very very amateur picture-taker, not even up to the level of amateur photographer. But I have fun, and like what I take and I'm not bothered about the technical aspects at this point. Here are three samples. Thanks for looking!
