No difference in the final image. They do the same thing. Linear is cheaper but does not allow phase detection focus. NEX uses contrast detection focus so it does not benefit from a circular polarizer. If you plan to share the polarizer between two cameras, say your NEX and your Nikon D3S (kidding), get circular.

Whichever you do get, don't get a cheap one. It'll degrade your resolution. Aim for $30 on the linear, $50 on the circular. Try 2filters.com. Stay away from Tiffen.
