SSD failure rates are quite high at the best of times, but much higher if you do a lot of writing. I don't have any personal experience of this, mind.
Actually it is quite low if you stay with Intel and other good brands. SSD allows for some snake-oil type manufactures. Harder to make a mechanical hard drive, easier to make an SSD one and so on. In the link below some people have written over 50TB to a 40GB Intel SSD ... I'd say that is pretty good. All three of my computers use them and things are great.
