I would have to agree with you on this one! I shoot mostly primes, and love the quality, speed, and size of them. I find that the Sigma 30/1.4 and Nikon 85/1.8 can handle most things; throw in a wide zoom (Tokina 12-24) and telephoto (300/4) and you have a complete kit. I actually have the 18-105 as well, but find I don't use it much; despite being a very good lens considering its range, size, aperture, etc, it cannot match a prime for quality (and I have photos to prove it).
