whats your dream lens?

[n/t]

Yes, a 16-105mm f2.8 G lens, with no vignetting at 16mm, nor barrel distortion at that length, would be fantastic.

Failing that, a 16mm f2 or 2.8 prime, not a fisheye, for APS-C. It would have to be a really high quality version of the NEX 16mm.

Since this is dreamland...

14-80 2.8 with internal focusing AND internal zoom, SSM and weighing less than 300g

Edit: Oh, and did I mention the superb IQ

I agree too! A series of no compromise CZ f2.0 primes: 24 (done!), 35, 50, 85, and 135 mm. All with SSM.
Agree with you!

I really think that a series with f:2 primes would be great -- would like to see the 35 mm f:2, a 50 mm f:2 and a 85 mm f:2 -- compact, lightweight and very sharp wide open lenses -- like the beautiful Zeiss 24 mm f:2 which is my favourite lens.

Such lenses would match new compact FF SLT cameras very well.

I like this day dream thread. I actually have two "dream lenses" I lust for:
1) CZ 16-35 on sale for $800 ??

2) 24-135 f4 SSM with focus lock? That revised "secrete handshake" would be ideal for FF everyday lens.

Oh wait, there is one more: CZ 12-24/2.8 with third party lens holder (for drop-in filters).

And another one: 100-500mm/f3.4-4.5 SSM, basically the bigger brother of 70-400G.

Lastly, for APS-C super zoom, how about Sigma make their "anniversary" release: 18-280 OS HSM, with much better optical quality (similar to Tamron's 70-300 USD). It's so good that most people won't even need any kit lens, 16-80, 16-105, etc. ??

We can dream, can't we?

This is easy to answer but I doubt if it will ever be manufactured......

11mm - 600mm
F1.4 - F32
No more than 100mm in length
77mm Filter
Less than £100
Image quality to match 135mm F1.4 for full zoom range

...........oh yes and including lifetime guarantee and insurance

If anyone can do this they will clean up.......

16-105 CZ or G

That would be nice to get better than 1:3 LS at 3 feet.

Two lenses would make me really happy right now.

A long G quality telephoto zoom starting at around 200mm and going to 560mm or 600mm. Keep it f5.6 on the long end and a fairly hand holdable 5lbs without the collar. Keep the close focus to 2m to 2.5m.

A true flat field macro telephoto zoom. Starting around 70mm or 100mm and going to 200mm at a fixed f/4. 1:1 would be at the long end.

Both of these internal focus and weather sealed.

....
24-135/f4 G / AF / APO / Asph / SSM / Macro / Internal focus / 9 blades /
That woud be on my A900 ( A99? ) 80% of the time!

For me, the lens I want the most would be a 50-150mm f2.8 (or faster) very high optical quality lens to cover Full Frame (not APS).

yes, I am wondering how the big heavy ZA zooms are going to balance with the new bodies. So it would be nice to have the smaller, lighter primes as an alternative.

i have silly anachronistic desires: reissued contax zeiss (not ZF) 35/1.4 with newer coatings and an 11 blade aperture diaphragm - don't bother with the autofocus, reissued rokkor 58/1.2 with the newer coatings and aperture, sony zeiss 85/2 sonnar, and finally a sony 400mm f/4 APO (i guess i'd accept autofocus for this one, but wouldn't complain if it didn't have it). i want them all to have to have the same build as the original rokkor 58/1.2 as well with the rock solid construction and metal focus ring, but i want them to be weather sealed. finally i want a weather sealed FF dslr with the a900's viewfinder and an articulated lcd with real liveview to use the lenses on. oh yeah, i want the dslr to have the same form factor as the old pentax mx.
now common every one has their dream lens they would want in their head...
the lens that her absence in your pouch is felt the most

even if this lens does not yet exist or maybe even not possible able to be made today.

ill start.

i wish there was a 16-105mm with constant 2.8 or maybe the ability to be from 1.8 or 2.8 at the wide end to 50mm at least .

i found that this is the area of focal length i use the most and this aperture will let me feed my love for portraits also .

I have absolutely no trouble using big and heavy lenses with my A55 (ZA 24 and ZA 85 mm, Sony G 70-200 f:2.8 and G 70-400 f:4-5.6). The lens rests in my left hand (turned upside down, placed under the lens), while the right hand operates the camera and ensures a sturdy grip. This is the best grip for any lens, giving excellent support for the camera/lens combo.
