Andrew, be interested on your take on beach + filter situation. I've never shot on a beach before but I am a careful individual. Do you really need a filter on a beach? I wasn't planning on rubbing the lens in the sand, and if it's not windy? I appreciate why people do in this situation. Is it really risking it, without one on a beach?

If it's not windy it may not be necesary, but my main concern would be spray. I shot a windsurfing event in South Africe with my 70~200 (not prefessionally I should add!) and the filter was covered in spray by the end of it. I took the filter off once I left the beach and - hey presto - a clean lens underneath so I could carry on using it.
