Re: SA9 SA7 SA7n

Actually, the SA7 and SA9 wére launched at the same time. The SA7 was a completely new design for Sigma, aimed at the lower end of the enthusiasts camera market. Nice camera, easy to operate and conceptually clearly inspired by the SD9: same chunky design, same absence of unnecessary functions, etc. Bit on the small side, though.

The SA9 descends from the earlier Sigma film SLR line of SA300, SA300n, and SA5. The body is in essence an update from these older models, with a bit more advanced functions than the SA7 had to offer. Especially, the 1/8000 shutter time set it apart from the competition. However, the SA9's pricetag was considerably higher than the SA7's which made a very hard to sell, particularly since Sigma already struggled to compete with Canon, Nikon, Minolta, etc. That's why the SA9 has always been very hard to find, while the SA7 is much more widely available.

The SA7n was Sigma's final film SLR, an updated version of the regular SA7 but honestly, what exactly was updated has always been unclear to me...
