It could in theory, but in practice this would not make a lot of sense. If you look at the NEX cameras from Sony, for example, you'll notice the sensor is very close to the lens mount. This allows the camera to be very small. The K-mount lens system is designed around a mount-to-sensor (or film, of course) distance that is much larger, because there has to be a mirror inbetween the two. Keeping this distance for a mirrorless camera system would make the cameras unnecessarily big.
