All this talk about "equivalence" is silly

Carlk's explanation is about comparing different sensors which might have different noise characteristics. In my example it is the same sensor, so it will have the same noise characteristics, and what carlk writes in the referred post doesn't apply in this case.

I agree though that you cannot apply equivalence theory blindly, just like you cannot apply Newton's mechanics blindly, but both theories are useful and gives you a deeper understanding of how things work.
